Queen had cataract op and kept working
She shuns advice for time off
The Queen yesterday THE Queen had a cataract operation last month – but it didn’t stop her working.
The 92-year-old monarch had the procedure as a day patient at the private King Edward VII’S hospital in London.
Doctors advise the eye op patients to take a week or two off work in most cases but Her Majesty soldiered on.
In recent weeks, the Queen has been seen wearing protective sunglasses at a number of
events including the Royal Windsor Horse Show. But she was without them yesterday in bright sunshine as she opened The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Galleries at Westminster Abbey.
A spokesman said: “I can confirm that the Queen successfully underwent a short planned procedure to treat a cataract last month.”
But she did not cancel or postpone any engagements. She is still as busy as ever and one of the most dedicated members of the family, carrying out 296 engagements last year.
Her Majesty is expected to attend Trooping the Colour celebrations with the Duke of Edinburgh today.
Prince Philip will come out of retirement to join the family as they welcome Meghan, Duchess of Sussex on the balcony of Buckingham Palace for the first time.
And the Queen will celebrate Philip’s 97th birthday tomorrow.
