TEEN IN HOL BALCONY PLUNGE

Leaving Cert student fights for life after 39ft fall on Spanish island

- BY DAVID RALEIGH

A TEEN on holiday with pals is fighting for his life after falling 39ft from a hotel balcony.

Triplet Jack Walsh, 19, had been in Santa Ponsa, Majorca, for just a few hours. He flew out after retaking a Leaving Cert exam.

Last night he was in a critical condition in hospital. Fianna Fail councillor Kevin Sheahan, a family friend, said: “The thoughts of the entire community are with

the family and we hope and pray Jack will make a full recovery.”

Locals in Askeaton, Co Limerick, said Jack’s parents Tony and Sandra and his sisters Tara and Orla have been left numbed by the news. It’s understood a number of relatives have already travelled to Son Espases Hospital where Jack is receiving critical care.

A source said the teenager flew to Spain yesterday to catch up with a group of friends after staying behind to resit a maths exam. They added: “He flew out sometime yesterday.

“The boys went [first] and [afterwards] he hooked up with them.”

Local Spanish news outlet Cronicabalear.es reported a 19-year old Irishman was in a “very serious” condition after falling “from a height of about 12 metres in Santa Ponsa.

“The events took place at 4.25am in the Vista Club apartments on Nuno Sanz Street and the causes of what happened are unknown.”
