TWO elderly people died in separate road crashes yesterday morning.

A man in his 70s was killed and a woman is in a serious condition after a crash on the Ballyhooley Road in Ballyvolane, Co Cork yesterday at 8.15am.

Elsewhere, a woman aged in her mid-60s died following a two-car crash in Co Mayo.

The incident happened on the N5 Westport Road near Castlebar at 8.30am.

A man in his mid-30s who was driving the other car was treated for minor injuries. TWO League One footballers were led to court in handcuffs yesterday after an alleged sex attack on a teenage holidaymaker in Ibiza.

Charlton Athletic players Reeco Hackett-fairchild and Karlan Ahearnegrant, both 20, were arrested early on Tuesday at a hotel near the party resort of San Antonio on the Spanish island.

They appeared with a third man Olusola Odejayi, 26, before a judge in Ibiza town yesterday.

Strikers Hackett-fairchild and Ahearne-grant kept their heads down and said nothing as they were led from a police car to the court building.

Last night a family friend who has known Ahearne-grant since he was 11 said she was “incredibly shocked” to hear of the players’ arrests. She said: “I’m so surprised about that. I can’t believe that. He’s a very nice boy.”

Spanish media reported that the alleged sex attack is believed to have taken place after the two players and their friends had been partying at San Antonio’s famous Ocean Beach club. The alleged victim was there with a female friend and they agreed to return to the players’ trendy Axel Beach hotel in nearby Cala de Bou, Ibiza police said.

One of the women, aged 19, reported the alleged assault later after her parents learned what had reportedly happened.

The Ocean Beach club is owned by Gary Lineker’s brother Wayne and is a magnet for footballers.

High-profile stars Mario Balotelli, Dele Alli and Jermain Defoe have all been pictured partying there.

Hackett-fairchild posted pictures of himself at the celebrity haunt on social media just days before his arrest. It is alleged the attack took place at the Axel Beach San Antonio is a popular location for clubbing Hotel, which is popular with fashionconscious tourists.

Hackett-fairchild and Odejayi have had their passports taken away from them and will continue to be probed on suspicion of sexually attacking a holidaymaker at their hotel near the party resort of San Antonio.

Ahearne-grant, also 20, has been told he can leave the island but must sign on at the Spanish Embassy in London. He will be investigated on suspicion of a privacy offence but not a sex crime

The judge in Ibiza was last night considering whether the trio should be charged after reviewing statements and forensic evidence from police. He has until later today to make a decision.

A Charlton Athletic spokesman said: “Due to the ongoing investigation we will not be commenting any further.”
