Tribe ‘keeper big doubt for Cats decider

- BY PAT NOLAN

GOALKEEPER Colm Callanan is Galway’s only significant injury worry approaching Sunday week’s Leinster senior hurling final against Kilkenny.

Joe Canning (knee) and Johnny Glynn (hamstring), who both sat out the win over Dublin, should be available for selection but Callanan is unlikely to come into the reckoning.

The 2015 All-star (above) has yet to play for the county this year having suffered a series of minor injuries and James Skehill has taken over between the posts in the meantime.

Boss Micheal Donoghue explained: “He has just been a bit unlucky. He made massive progress to get back and then he has got another setback.

“It’s not that they are terribly bad [injuries] they are just taking a lot of time to settle. We are delighted to have him within the setup. He has massive experience, a huge leader within the group.

“He is working really hard to get back. We will just see how the next number of weeks go for him.”

Reflecting on the round robin campaign, which saw the All-ireland champions win all four games, Donoghue added: “Because we had the three weeks now, it’s probably an ideal time frame between different games. The schedule was pretty hectic.

“We had a few days off but we are back now since the middle of last week. Back into the full rigmaroles.

“It’s been really good to us, happy to have gone through it. And looking forward to two weeks’ time.”
