Rainbow can land a pot of gold
CHAMPION-JOCKEY Colin Keane and trainer Ger Lyons are the men to follow in Leopardstown tonight, with two-year-olds Heavenly Rainbow and California Daddy set to get the ball rolling in the early action.
Runner-up in his two starts, California Daddy, a son of Scat Daddy, is napped to open his account in the one-mile Irish Stallion Farms Maiden.
A promising second to smooth winner Van Beethoven on his debut at Naas, California Daddy started favourite for a seven-furlong run at this track on his second start but ran a strange race before getting within a length and a quarter of exciting debutant Bold Approach.
Having raced close to the pace the Glenburnie colt appeared to be outpaced at a crucial stage early in the straight but finished with a flourish, producing a display which suggested he would be even better suited by tonight’s longer trip.
And he gets the vote to beat Ballydoyle newcomer Sovereign and the Jim Bolger-trained Vocatus.
In the opener, Heavenly Rainbow, which overcame a few problems before scoring narrowly on his debut at Fairyhouse, is expected to improve significantly in the Foran Equine Irish EBF 2-Y-0 Auction Race.
Hyde Park Corner might give the selection most to do, on 7lb better terms.
Keane and Lyons also have obvious prospects in two of the handicaps on the card with Tony The Gent in the Bulmers Live At Leopardstown Handicap and Elegant Drama in the Leopardstown Carnival Night 3-Y-0 Handicap.
