COMEDIAN Kevin Mcgahern has revealed a man tried to kiss him in a pub – just to make his girlfriend jealous.

The former Republic Of Telly host told how the eager lad locked lips with him while on a night out because his partner was a fan of the entertainer.

Kevin, 31, admitted while he was taken aback by the smooch, he found the funny side in the encounter.

The Cavan comedian told the Irish Mirror: “Lads are strange, they might come up to you and demand a photo.

“There was one lad who basically started shifting me in the pub one night. He had no time for me at all, but his girlfriend was obsessed. He basically tried to shift me on camera and I was saying, ‘Take it easy man’.

“[Fans] are generally great though, all typically my kind of weirdo.”

Kevin shot to fame when he was cast as Sim Card in comedy series Hardy Bucks in 2010, after starting out in stand-up while he was in college.

The RTE star confessed he didn’t tell anyone he was trying to make it big and would sneak out to do gigs in secret.

Kevin said: “I was in college and I had a mate who was a comedian, I thought it was mental. He said, very casually, that I should do it.

“I didn’t tell anyone, not even my girlfriend, because I thought if I failed it’d be very embarrassing.

“I was heading out to gigs at 9pm and my girlfriend had no idea.

“I don’t think she thought I was having an affair but it had all the characteristics of a sordid affair.

“I was going out late, dressing up real nice and not telling her anything. After a while I told her.

“I was studying animation, I wanted to make cartoons. Then I found an easier way to make people laugh I suppose.

“I was useless at football and where I come from, if you’re not good at football you better try something else so I started making jokes at training. I thought, ‘Alright, this might be a way out’.

“It required a lot less running. We’re not a particularly fit bunch, comedians.”

Kevin was speaking yesterday to launch Vodafone’s search for Ireland’s best undiscovered comedian. By uploading and tagging #Centrestage entrants are in with a chance of being crowned Ireland’s Funniest Fecker at this year’s Vodafone Comedy Festival, which runs from July 26 to 29 at Dublin’s Iveagh Gardens.

The competition is now open online and runs until the end of July.

Kevin said: “I’m actually creating competition for myself – it’s probably not a smart move career wise for me.

“We’re on the hunt, looking for the next generation of Irish comedians.

“People can send in video of jokes, sketches or impressions – whatever it is that they do.

“Then we’re going to sift through and find Ireland’s funniest fecker and we’ll unveil them at the Vodafone Comedy Festival.”
