Cork 2-24 Clare 3-19 Munster SHC final BY PAT NOLAN

CORK boss John Meyler immediately switched focus to the All-ireland semi-final after delivering the county’s 54th Munster title.

Meyler may be in his first year in charge but he was part of the management team that oversaw last year’s provincial success before suffering a heavy defeat to Waterford.

“It’s just another match now and it’s over,” he insisted. “We are in an Allireland semifinal and

we need to rectify what went on last year, that’s not acceptable what happened last year against Waterford and we will be emphasising that to the players.

“We have won a Munster Championship; we are unbeaten in eight Munster Championship matches. “We now go to Croke Park in four weeks’ time and we need to step it up again and I have no doubt that we will because there was incredible character in those players out there today.”

Elaborating on that 4-19 to 0-20 loss to Waterford last August, Meyler said: “It is the end, it is the finish, you go out of Croke Park after losing by 11 or 12 points whatever we lost by and you can’t rectify that wrong.

“But we have an opportunity and a chance to rectify that and we have to do it and that’s the bottom line there is no looking back and saying we have won two Munsters in a row that’s gone it’s finished with it’s over with.

“We’re in Croke Park in four weeks time and must perform.”

Central to the Cork victory was captain Seamus Harnedy, who scored 1-4 and set up Cork’s first goal, scored by Luke Meade, just before half-time which helped swing the game in their favour.

Harnedy said: “In fairness to Luke Meade, his selflessness off the ball and the amount of tracking for other fellas that he does is exemplary and he just turned up at the right place and his execution of the opportunity is unbelievable.”
