We’re the One, Bono tells crowd
BONO wooed the New York crowd in Madison Square Garden as he voiced his support for Ireland’s bid.
An impressive delegation of 152 UN ambassadors were invited to the iconic New York venue for U2’s concert.
Also in the crowd for the band’s 30th performance at MSG over the years were fellow rock legends Bruce Springsteen and Michael Stipe, along with author Salman Rushdie, to whom the penultimate song, Love is Bigger, was dedicated.
Bono welcomed Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and Tanaiste Simon Coveney to the gig too.
He added: “We also have our Mary Robinson here tonight who work tirelessly for peace on the island of Ireland.
“And you know we have seen a lot of conflicts over the years, over the world, and we have watched those blue hats put themselves in harm’s way.
“Tonight we have 150 ambassadors representing the UN here tonight, we want to thank you for keeping the world more peaceful.”
