Girls can rein as top riders claims Walsh

- BY MIKIE O’LOUGHLIN

Ruby Walsh CHAMPION jockey Ruby Walsh is adamant there is plenty of room for women in horse racing.

As a dad of four girls, he said females can flourish in the sport like his sister Katie Walsh and sister-inlaw Nina Carberry, who both recently retired.

He told RSVP Live: ”My sister did well and so did my sister-in-law, as well as Kate Harrington. It is perceived as a man’s world but it doesn’t have to be.”

Ruby, 39, from Co Kildare, is dad to Isabelle, Elsa, Grace and Erica and would have no issue with them hitting the track.

He added: “Two of them are in pony camp this week. If they choose to go into racing, I will support them or if not, I will still support them.”
