Flight MH1805 was expected to leave Zante for London Stansted Airport at 2pm on Sunday.

The flight was eventually cancelled and exhausted passengers sent to hotels but one said she “arrived to find cockroache­s on the walls”.

She added: “We finally boarded the plane home – 12 hours later.”

Thomas Cook Airlines said: “Flight MT1805 was delayed due to an issue with on-board air conditioni­ng.

“We recognise we should have disembarke­d the aircraft earlier.

“We are sorry. All customers will be given a letter of apology with detail on entitlemen­t to compensati­on.”
