Mcinnes: Forrester has the ability to spark our attack but he has to get used to Aberdeen’s way of playing

CHRIS FORRESTER is being backed to be a match winner for Aberdeen.

The Dubliner joined the Dons from Peterborough in a £200,000 move last month and admitted that the Posh captaincy was a burden he struggled to deal with.

And the former Bohs star made an instant impact for his new club, scoring the only goal in a 1-0 pre-season victory over Cobh at the weekend after coming on after half an hour.

Ireland international Stephen Gleeson also made his Dons debut in the game at the Fota Island resort, which was broken up into three periods of 30 minutes due to the hot weather.

The Dons are gearing up for their Europa League meeting with Burnley on July 26 and manager Derek Mcinnes remarked: “Sometimes you need those forward players to make the difference to turn one point into three.

“In terms of his touch and his passing ability the reason we brought Chris here was because he can be the difference.

“I think Chris can be that for us either through his assists or his goals.

“It is something that is important to him, to be more relevant in the final third rather than just be seen as a good passer.

“Against Cobh Ramblers he was the difference with a lovely finish with his left foot.

“He just shifts the ball on to it and gives us that bit of quality.

“He scored a good goal and it was one that we deserved as we were the better side.”

Mcinnes added: “Chris is a confident boy and has to get used to the demands of us as well.

“There were moments when you could see his quality.

“His touch is so true, he plays with his head up and the crispness of passing is there.

“Chris has some work to do to make sure his game is that bit more rounded for us.

“That’s the demands we are going to put on him.”
