BRENDAN BACK WITH ST PAT’S

- BY MICHAEL SCULLY

BRENDAN CLARKE has returned to St Patrick’s Athletic for a third spell.

But the 32-year-old keeper faces a battle to get into Liam Buckley’s side, with Barry Murphy first choice and Brian Maher also on the club’s books.

Clarke confirmed his Limerick departure on Sunday after helping the club to an important win over Bray Wanderers.

The Dubliner – who has won a League and FAI Cup with the Saints – said: “The problems at Limerick were well documented. The club basically said that you’re free to go, it would help them financially if I went.

“People will say, ‘He’s going back to Pat’s, that’s his roots’, but it’s not that.

“I spoke to a good few clubs and the stuff going on behind the scenes is really exciting at the club and it’s something I want to be part of.”

Limerick, meanwhile, are hoping to sign Jack Brady from Longford Town as Clarke’s replacement.
