Varadkar hits out over hard border plans
Leo Varadkar TAOISEACH Leo Varadkar has slapped down the taxman for allegedly making contingency plans for checkpoints in the case of a hard Brexit.
Senior Government sources claim Revenue commissioners have been scouting locations for customs checks.
But when asked in New York if the story was true, the Taoiseach said the issue had not been on the table in negotiations.
He added: “No, and if they [Revenue] are, they certainly are not doing it at the direction of Government – and if they are, they can stop.
“We are not contemplating a physical border between Northern Ireland and Ireland. That is simply not going to happen.”
