Dad’s Army bomb guide goes on sale

SOE calendar A “DAD’S Army” bombbuildi­ng manual from the Second World War disguised as a calendar is up for sale today.

It was to be used by the Home Guard after a Nazi invasion of Britain.

It is among a large collection of items from the wartime Special Operations Executive, including lethal weapons such as a dart-firing pen and a dagger designed to be concealed in a coat sleeve.

The private collection is up for auction in Marlow, Bucks, with a €680 estimate for the bomb guide. ■ Dad Danny Thackray, 31, told his three children to run for their lives when his fishing line pulled up two wartime bombs near Conwy, North Wales. The weapons were destroyed in a controlled explosion.
