O’brien is after Eclipse

- BY DAVE MITCHELL

AIDAN O’BRIEN was last night seriously considering running 2,000 Guineas winner Saxon Warrior in Saturday’s Coral

Eclipse at Sandown.

Having failed to stay a mile and a half in the Irish Derby last weekend, Saxon Warrior was expected to be given a break before dropping back in trip at York next month.

But with only nine horses entered to take on Epsom winner Masar in the Sandown feature, O’brien is keeping his options open with half of the candidates being Ballydoyle based.

“He’s come out of the Irish Derby well and we’re going to leave it until the last minute before making up our minds about whether he’ll run,” said O’brien yesterday. “He’ll be ridden out in the morning and he’ll tell us if he’s ready or not.”
