Uni students ‘are forced to sleep rough’

A TD has predicted more than 50 local students will be forced to sleep rough this year.

Fianna Fail’s Anne Rabbitte said the housing problems facing Galway are symbolic of those nationwide.

Claiming 22 students camped out in Eyre Square at the beginning of last September, she added: “It will be easily double that.

“The accommodation this year cannot be got for love nor money.”

NUI Galway’s Megan Reilly added: “We have seen students in terrible stations in terms of having to stay in short-term accommodation, B&BS and hostels.”
