BUCKS Fizz star Jay Aston has been back in the studio for what could be the last time as she has more treatment for the mouth cancer that could end her singing career. The pop star has already had one operation to remove a section of her tongue and will undergo a second procedure next week.

But before she goes into hospital, she is finishing the vocals on a Christmas album from the band, now called The Fizz. Jay, 57, told the Mirror: “It’s been a pleasure to get back into the studio before my treatment. My voice has returned, not in full, but almost, so I can add vocals for our forthcoming Christmas album and another new album for 2019.

“I go into hospital next week, for two weeks. I’ve had an amazing outpouring of support and want to thank everyone for their kind wishes.”

The album will be finished by her long-term bandmates Cheryl Baker and Mike Nolan.

Cheryl, 64, said: “It was great to be in the studio with Jay just before her operation. She did some fabulous vocals... Jay is overwhelmed with the support and encouragement she has received.”

Skin from Jay’s thigh will be used to reconstruct her tongue, with the doctors hopeful she should be able to sing again in a year’s time.
