WE’RE GOING ALL THE WAY, SAYS GOLOVIN

- FROM DAVID MCDONNELL

in Sochi RUSSIA midfielder Aleksandr Golovin is convinced the hosts can win the World Cup.

Stanislav Cherchesov’s side produced one of the shocks of the tournament by defeating 2010 winners Spain in the last 16 in a penalty shoot-out. And Golovin, who scored from the spot in the shoot-out, said that victory had given Russia the belief they can go all the way and lift the World Cup in Moscow on July 15.

“We knew that everything was possible,” said the 22-year-old. “Even before the beginning of the tournament we all understood that we could reach the final.

“We seriously counted on this and see this as the real state of things for us now.”
