Pricing hikes by Bord Gais will add up to €100 to bills
Bord Gais BORD Gais is the latest utility to raise its prices, it has emerged.
From August 6, it will increase electricity costs by 5.8%, adding €60 on to the annual bill for an average customer.
Gas prices will also go up by 4.7%, which will add €36.72 on to the average annual gas bill.
Households who use both will see their annual bill jump by €96.72.
The company has blamed the price hikes on continued increases in the price of gas and energy in wholesale markets.
The news comes just a week after Energia, Flogas, Electric Ireland, Panda Power, SSE Airtricity and Pinergy announced they would be raising bills in coming weeks.
Switcher.ie’s Eoin Clarke said: “Unfortunately wholesale energy prices have shot up in recent months.
“As a result, the vast majority of suppliers have implemented at least one price hike since last winter and today’s news signals there’s no end in sight.
“There are still good savings to be made on energy if people take control of their bills and regularly switch.
“However, only a small percentage of Irish consumers do so each year, so many are missing out on savings.”
