Irishman arrested after trying to board flights with his two children
POLICE in Spain have arrested an Irishman after he tried to “snatch” his children and fly back home with them.
He was held as he attempted to board a flight to Belfast at Malaga Airport with the youngsters aged nine and six after breaching a restraining order.
Officers said he turned up at his former partner’s workplace in the holiday resort of Mijas and took the children.
She alerted the made the arrest.
A spokesman for the Civil Guard said: “Officers mounted an operation at Malaga Airport the same day and discovered the man police who they were looking for at a boarding gate in Terminal Three when he was preparing to catch a flight to Belfast.
“He was identified and officers confirmed a restraining order issued by a court in Malaga was in place. He was subsequently arrested.”
The whereabouts of the man held by police was not immediately clear yesterday.
The nationality of his ex has not been revealed. Police sources said the man they held was travelling on an Irish passport but he had “dual nationality” although they said the other passport he used was not British.
