Jessica’s filly is set to Sparkle

- BY PETER O’HEHIR

SPARKLE’N’JOY, trained by Jessica Harrington, should be difficult to beat in the Foran Equine Irish EBF

2-Y-0 Auction Maiden in Naas today.

This Sepoy filly has shown plenty of ability in her two starts and has been found a good opportunity to open her account here.

On her debut at the Curragh, Sparkle’n’joy displayed good speed before finishing fifth behind Just Wonderful, form boosted by the subsequent wins of runner-up Lethal Promise and third Gossamer Wings.

On the basis of that debut effort, the selection was strongly-fancied to triumph at Fairyhouse but, having tracked the leaders, never posed a serious threat and merely stayed on to finish third behind debutantes Cava and My Laureate.

The winner went close against So Perfect in a Group 3 at the Curragh last week while fifth-placed

Usra filled third spot in a listed event at Tipperary on Thursday.

Sparkle’n’joy has been racing in pretty hot company and looks the clear form pick in today’s event. And, unless there’s a smart newcomer in the line-up, she should deliver for Jessica and Colm O’donoghue.

The six-furlong Irish Stallion Farms ENF race has attracted just three runners, two of them trained by Aidan O’brien. And Padraig Beggy’s mount Most Gifted looks the one to beat.

Although disappointing when a beaten favourite and third behind Surrounding and Gasta in Fairyhouse in her penultimate start, she had earlier won a Cork maiden and finished eighth, beaten less than seven lengths, behind Alpha Centauri in the Irish 1,000 Guineas.

Last time, she was runner-up behind Petticoat in a competitive fillies handicap at the Curragh. And, if allowed dictate the pace, Most Gifted should be tough to pass.
