WATSONIA ‘ROYAL SALMON’

-

You don’t see too much of this around but if you like gladioli and crocosmia, you might be interested in growing this one.

Native to South Africa and named after British botanist Sir William Watson, it is a perennial corm with sword-like leaves and tubular flowers along the stem.

This variety has lovely salmon pink flowers but they also come in white, red and orange.

Plant in welldrained soil in full sunshine. It can be a little tender so if you always lift your gladioli in autumn, lift this species too. Otherwise, in milder climates, a winter mulch should protect it and the Watsonia will happily multiply in your garden.
