The public and PSNI officers were attacked in the Fountain estate interface and Nailor’s Row area of Derry at around 10pm on Saturday.

Bricks and bottles were also thrown at property in the area, causing what police described as “mindless damage”.

Superintendent Gordon Mccalmont said: “Fortunately, no injuries were sustained, but this behaviour damages our city and cannot be tolerated.”

The SDLP’S Mark H Durkan said: “These attacks are completely reprehensible and those behind them must be brought to justice.”

Sebastien Izambard and Il Divo play Dublin this month Fans can get excited at Il Divo concerts IL Divo star Sebastien Izambard has told how one of his favourite memories of performing is frisky Irish women throw their knickers at them.

In the Guinness World Records, the male quartet were rated the world’s most commercially successful classical crossover group in international music history.

Commenting on their infatuated female fan base Sebastien, 45, told the Irish Mirror: “Irish women are so lovely, so expressive and that’s how we like it.

“We found Irish people are so alive and wonderful to sing along with just great and fun really. One of my fondest memories are of Irish women throwing knickers up on stage.”

The French singer told how leaving Simon Cowell’s record label was the best thing the foursome ever did.

He said: “This year we decided to separate from Simon Cowell and produce our own record, paying everything ourselves.

“We are 100% in and it makes it easier because sometimes there can be too many people involved in decision making.

“We realised we wanted to do it ourselves and he said, ‘No problem,’ and wished us well.

“But now we need to get out of our comfort zone a bit.”

together, Sebastien said the secret to the group’s success is similar to a longstanding marriage.

He added: “We are very passionate about what we do and we’re not thinking of taking people’s money and coming on stage and leaving.

“We give 100% on stage and want people to leave with a big smile.

“We drive each other crazy like any marriages. We now do the opposite of what we used to do, we now have a way of voting on decisions.

“We know that everything is in the best interest of the band.”

Il Divo play Trinity College Park Dublin on July 24 and Sebastien would relish the thought of touring Cork after the gig.

He said: “My wife Renee is Australian but she has roots in Cork so we plan on doing a tour of the county, we haven’t had the chance yet.”

The quartet release their 10th studio album next month and collaborating with Irish acts is on the band’s wish list.

He added: “I’m a big Damien Rice fan too, we’d love to collaborate with U2 of course that would be more than amazing. Sinead O’connor would be great too.

“I’d like to collaborate with people who’d be really out of what people expect.”
