SHARP OBJECTS

-

Sky Atlantic, 9pm

Two girls are roller-skating along an open road, full of joy. But this opening episode is called Vanish, which can’t be good.

The girls creep into a stately looking house and one pokes a sharp wire into a sleeping woman’s hand. Suddenly the woman wakes up with a start – the girls aren’t there – and it seems to be another time and place.

Yes, this is dark, creepy, and a little confusing at first (as it should be), a gripping thriller based on the book by best-selling author Gillian Flynn, who wrote Gone Girl.

The sleeping woman is Camille, played by Amy Adams, a troubled newspaper reporter who is called into her editor’s office. He wants her to go back to her home town, Wind Gap, to cover a string of unsolved child murders.

But as she heads there she keeps having strange flashbacks. OK, she’s swigging booze at every opportunity, but still, things are very weird...
