HARPS RACK UP PLAY-OFF PRESSURE

FINN HARPS were the big winners over the weekend as the run-in began in the intriguing

First Division promotion race.

A dramatic last minute strike from veteran John O’flynn gave Ollie Horgan’s, right, side a 1-0 victory away at DROGHEDA UTD.

It moves Harps back up into the top four, with just one point now separating the teams in the play-off places.

Drogheda drop to third as SHELBOURNE moved second after a 1-1 draw at leaders UCD, who remain four points clear at the top.

Yousef Mahdy put College in front early in the second-half before defender Derek Prendergas­t headed Shels level seven minutes from time.

LONGFORD TOWN blew a chance to go joint second as they fell to a shock 2-1 defeat at home to Cobh Ramblers to drop out of the play-off places.

Denzil Fernandes put Cobh in front on 49 minutes.

Sam Verdon scored for the third match running to level before Stephen Christophe­r hit Cobh’s 85th minute winner.

Mccormack and Ronan Manning eased to a 4-1 win over bottom side ATHLONE TOWN at Eamonn Deacy Park.

Mark Slater and Dean Kelly scored late on as beat CABINTEELY 2-1 at Stradbrook.
