Tragic trio’s bench burnt

A BENCH to honour three people who drowned has been destroyed in an arson attack.

Brothers Drew and John Blair, aged 25 and 23, died while trying in vain to save 15-year-old Heather Birney in 1975.

The bench in Omagh, Co Tyrone, was set alight on Sunday night.

A source for the Blair Memorial Flute Bands, which were established in the name of the brothers, said: “This is an attack on the community.”
