Illegal salmon nets and 26 fish seized

SALMON that were illegally caught have been seized by authorities.

Twenty-six untagged fish in the Glenties region of Donegal and a kilometre of illegal nets were found by Inland Fisheries Ireland.

The first seizure took place after officers noticed suspicious activity.

The second seizure was at Inisbeg Island during sea patrols along the north west coast of Donegal.

Two drift nets, measuring 600 yards and 500 yards, were seized together with two salmon.

Dr Milton Matthews of Inland Fisheries Ireland said: “This highlights the importance of offshore and coastal patrols.”
