Cost no bar to abortion, vows Harris
NEW laws to allow abortions will ensure cost is no barrier to accessing the procedure, the Government has said.
Ministers have also approved exclusion zones around clinics performing terminations, to ensure women are free from potential harassment.
Health Minister Simon Harris sought backing for the new policy areas yesterday.
The new laws will allow for unrestricted access to abortion up to 12 weeks.
From 12 to 24 weeks they will be permitted in exceptional circumstances.
Mr Harris insisted he was on course to enact the new laws by January 2019.
He said: “Work continues on preparations for introduction of this service.”
