The Rebels can rise again but they need a huge culture shift

CORK’S dreadful display against Tyrone did Gaelic football a disservice.

And I don’t buy into Cork not being a football county: I played in three All-ireland finals against them.

What has changed is the attitude towards football down there. In the last few years the Rebel hurlers have really got their act together by fielding players with real character.

Football boss Ronan Mccarthy (left) must be left to figure it out over the next few years. He has said he’ll go in a totally different direction in 2019 and he needs to find players with great heart and attitude first of all.

Cork haven’t been able to pull it together since 2010 but it remains a massive football county.

It’s about unearthing those guys who will die with their boots on and not throw in the towel, as they did last Saturday against Tyrone and against Kerry in the Munster final.
