BLUES FIT A NEW RUG

- BY DARREN LEWIS

CHELSEA are ready to offload David Luiz as they close in on a £35million deal for Juventus defender Daniele Rugani.

The move for 23-year-old Rugani is understood to be at the behest of incoming coach Maurizio Sarri, who worked with him at Empoli.

But Chelsea have yet to conclude a deal for Sarri to replace Antonio Conte.

In a shambolic state of affairs, Conte is currently taking training at the Blues’ Cobham HQ – even though both he and the players are fully aware that the club want to start the season with Sarri.

Luiz (above), who rejoined Chelsea for a second spell two years ago from Paris Saint-germain, fell out with Conte last season and has not played since early February.

During Luiz’s first spell at Chelsea, he lifted the Champions League in 2012, and the Europa League the following year.

He then won the

French title twice with

PSG, and the Premier League with Chelsea in 2017.
