Sir Laurence Olivier, one of our greatest actors, died 29 years ago today. Pictured here in 1956, he played more than 50 film roles, dominating the stage and screen in the 1940s and 50s. His films included Wuthering Heights in 1939, Rebecca (1940), and the TV adaptation of Brideshead Revisted in 1981. He won four Academy Awards, two Baftas, five Emmys, three Golden Globes and was married to Vivien Leigh for 20 years from 1940 to 1960.
