Towels ready for the holiday hell sprint to the sunbeds

- BY NADA FARHOUD Consumer Features Editor

THERE’S no lounging around at this hotel where holidaymakers are up at the crack of dawn to be first in the sunbed queue.

And minutes later there was a stampede to put towels over the loungers, with one man said to have broken a toe in the melee.

Joanne Kennedy, of Lincoln, was at the four-star Dunas Mirador in Gran Canaria when she filmed the 7am queue. She said of the rush: “Everybody’s elbowing each other out of the way. They’re like locusts.

“One man even broke his toe. Three minutes later, there’s towels on every bed.

“If you want to be poolside, be it in the shade or prime position, you’d better be ready to fight for your spot.”

Her footage is on Channel 4 tomorrow at 9pm in new documentary Holidays from Hell. Wait for the stampede
