A twist in the Tale

THE HANDMAID’S TALE RTE Two, 9.30pm

-

BATTEN down the hatches as season two of The Handmaid’s Tale comes to an explosive finale.

Spoiler alert! Tonight June (played by Elisabeth Moss) finally escapes the Waterford house, but declines to leave across Gilead’s border. Instead, she stays in the country, presumably to find her eldest daughter Hannah, and help with some kind of resistance.

In a twist the finale also finds Serena Joy (Yvonne Strahovski), who has slowly been evolving away from her pro-gilead worldview, admitting the world she helped build was not suitable to raise a child.

We see June wave her newborn baby off to Canada to stay and rescue her first-born Hannah. It also opens the door for season three with June gearing up to take on the powers that be in Gilead.

Season two sees the story reach a real turning point ahead of the next run, for which it has already been renewed by Hulu.

Episode 13 titled The Word marks the end of the shocking but compelling drama which is based on Margaret Atwood’s 1985 novel of the same name.

The first season was based on events of the book but season two has gone beyond the source material and is drawing from the rich world created by Atwood.

It is often a difficult watch but its dedicated fan base are committed to following June as she navigates her life in captivity in the oppressive Gilled.
