THE GAMESHOW SERIAL KILLER: POLICE TAPES

ITV, 9pm

-

This latest crime and punishment series must have been a bleak experience for Susanna Reid as she wades through mountains of horrifying murder evidence.

This time she has access to police tapes from the investigation into one of Britain’s most prolific serial killers, John Cooper, who murdered four people in Wales.

He was dubbed the Gameshow Killer because it was later discovered that four years after murdering a brother and sister in 1985, he appeared on the TV show Bullseye.

The appearance was weeks before the vicious shooting of a couple taking a coastal walk.

But Cooper actually eluded prosecution for 20 years until a new detective team and advances in forensics finally brought him to justice in 2011.

This is compelling as Susanna interviews the lead police officers and also hears Cooper’s interviews. In one he says: “I am not a murderer. I don’t care whether you believe it or not, I am not a murderer.”
