driver held after prison drugs find

A VAN driver was arrested at Mountjoy yesterday after the discovery of drugs and a number of other contraband items.

The find was made after a chief officer became suspicious when the vehicle entered the grounds of the jail in North Dublin..

When the van arrived at the kitchen loading bay area, the officer called the prison’s Operationa­l Support Group and a search of the van was carried out.

A package containing two smart phones, four mobile phones, eight sim cards, and a haul of drugs including around 4,000 tablets and a quantity of steroids were discovered.

The driver of the van was arrested and gardai were called to the scene, where the individual was taken for questionin­g.
