Pint-sized pop star Pixie Lott enjoyed success at a young age. The multitasking Brit nominee, who learned her craft at the Italia Conti stage school, has won acclaim as an actress in film and stage musicals and as a model, just like her fiance Oliver Cheshire.

Pixie, 27, recently added another string to her bow, opening her own performing arts school near where she was raised in Chelmsford, Essex.

“I noticed that they didn’t have one in Essex,” she says. “So we set up one – me and my sister and my mum. It’s amazing because it just reminds me of the place that I grew up. It’s just fun to be around it. I mean, a lot of kids are there just for fun. Just to meet people or build their confidence and just have a good time.

“Others go to take it more seriously because they know they want to work really hard and go to auditions for things and actually go into this professionally.”

It’s a busy year for Pixie after an extended period in Los Angeles writing and recording material for her belated fourth album, the follow-up to her self-titled Motown-inspired 2014 release.

And along with several festival appearances through the summer, she and Oliver, who have been together for eight years and got engaged in 2016, are planning their wedding next year.

“I feel very lucky,” says Pixie. “Even though life can get crazy, I’ve got that stable relationship. We’ve grown together – we’ve had so many memories and experiences. It’s definitely helped with my music because you write about your lifestyle, what we’re getting up to and he’s so used to it now.

“I was 19 when we started being together as a couple. Time has just flown by really.”

Last year, Oliver hit the news when he was one of the people who pinned down a taxi driver who drove into pedestrians outside London’s Natural History Museum.

How did Pixie feel when she heard the news?

“Obviously I am a big fan of Oliver’s. He’s an amazing person, he will always look out for the safety of others.”

Pixie Lott is performing tomorrow at Cornbury Festival (July 14) and next month at Brighton Pride and Meraki Festival
