AS Ireland recovers from weeks of tropical weather, the coming days will bring some much-needed rain – but it won’t be a total washout.

Temperatures are set to dip slightly and Met Eireann predicts it will be much cloudier with regular showers forecast to fall over the next seven days.

A spokesman said: “Monday will be a fresh day with variable cloud, some sunny spells and well-scattered showers.

“They will affect mainly the midlands and west, whereas many places will remain dry.

“Temperatures will be 16C to 21C – highest in the east.

“Monday night will be mostly dry and cool with lows of 9C to 12C, a few showers will move in off the Atlantic into western areas later in the night.

“Tuesday and Wednesday will be bright, fresh days with a mix of cloud and sunny spells with scattered showers in places, but rainfall will be small.”

The temperatures won’t dip too much though, with highest temperatures of 17C to 20c highest in southern or southeastern areas where it could reach 21C on Wednesday. Thursday will be cloudier, but the morning should be dry.

Rain will push into the north and north-west in the early afternoon and will spread to the south-east to affect most places later in the day.

There could be some heavier falls in northern and northwestern counties, but it won’t be a huge amount.

Temperatures will reach between 16C to 20C across the country.

Latest indications suggest brighter fresher weather for Friday with sunny spells and and temperatures of 16C to 21C across the country.

However, despite the rain a Status Yellow warning for drought conditions remains in effect until Wednesday..

The Met Eireann forecaster said: “There will be small rainfall amounts at times over the coming days.

“But there will be no significant reduction in soil moisture deficits as evapotranspiration rates will remain high.”
