SINGER Imelda May has told how she feels “uncomfortable” when questioned about her personal lyrics.

The 44-year-old has penned plenty of songs about her heartbreak in recent years.

Imelda split from her husband Darrel Higham in 2015 after nearly two decades together.

And last year there was more heartache for her when another relationship broke up.

The Call Me hitmaker said she “wasn’t expecting” to be quizzed over her lyrics so much when she released her album Life Love Flesh Blood.

Imelda added: “Sometimes that’s the whole point of writing a song, you write about something you don’t want to talk about and then you end up having to talk about it with someone you’ve never met who’s going to publish it for a lot of people to read.

“It’s quite an uncomfortable situation. And I don’t know how to deal with it.

“I’m going to have to figure something out because I know I have to promote my albums.”

WARY

When asked by the RTE Guide if it has made her wary of being so revealing in her songs, Imelda said: “Maybe a little, but I hope not. It might make me more hesitant when the time to promote it comes around.

“I’ll have to figure that one out, maybe a nice gin and tonic to hand.”

The Dubliner caused a stir in 2016 when she ditched her trademark rockabilly quiff for a sleek fringe and more understated style.

The mum of one hinted she might change her look yet again, saying she was surprised when people were so interested in her new image.

Imelda added: “It was intriguing to say the least.

“I didn’t have a big team around me discussing my look and what I should do, I’m not Madonna like.

“I just fancied a change and went to the hairdressers, same as anyone else. I just want to feel good.

“I’ve had many different haircuts over my life but people seemed to have latched on to one way I looked that I was known for.

“I hope I change again, be weird not to.”

Meanwhile, the star also revealed how she was recently asked to appear on Hollywood actor Jeff Goldblum’s debut jazz album.

Imelda said: “He’s as charming and witty as you would imagine and he’s like that all the time; he’s fabulous to be around.” it would
