- BY NIALL O’CONNOR

AN Irish man is missing and his wife is in hospital after they were caught up in Greek wildfires while celebrating their honeymoon.

Marketing executive Zoe Holohan and Brian O’callaghan-westropp, both in their 40s and from Dublin, had to run into the blaze as their hotel was engulfed by flames near Athens.

The fires have killed 74 people but the death toll is expected to rise.

Last night a source said: “It was a scene of total chaos. They were forced to flee from their

hotel and into the inferno. They jumped into a passing car but the flames were raging on both sides.

“They were forced out of the vehicle and tried to make a run for it. In the smoke and the flames they became separated.

“She suffered burns to her head and hands and is now in a Greek hospital recovering. Her husband is missing.”

A search team is scouring the burn zone for Mr O’callaghan-westropp and police are checking hospitals and centres for survivors.

It is believed the couple chose Greece for their honeymoon as Ms Holohan had an interest in the culture from her college days.

Meanwhile, other Irish people in the country are receiving help from home, the Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed.

It has urged those heading to Greece to keep up to date with reports and to follow the advice of local authorities in affected areas.

Anyone worried about an Irish national in the country can call the department on 01 408 2000 or the embassy in Athens on 0030 210 723 2771.
