IRELAND striker David Mcgoldrick has joined Sheffield United from Ipswich Town on a one-year deal.

Mcgoldrick, inset, 30, impressed in two pre-season games for the Blades against Bradford City and Mansfield Town.

The experienced attacker will have the option to sign an extension if this season goes to plan and United boss Chris Wilder was pleased to bring Mcgoldrick on board.

“I’ve continually said we only want to bring in players who strengthen us and David ticks that box,” Wilder said. “He’s a great link player, has a wealth of Championship experience and he may be coming into the best years of his career.

“David wanted to return north and this was too good an opportunity to turn down.”

CORK CITY JOHN CAULFIELD hopes Shane Daly-bütz can follow in Sean Mcloughlin’s footsteps and make a big impact at Cork City.

Midfielder Daly-bütz (above), 22, has signed his first pro contract with the club. Previously part of City’s U19s squad, he rejoins the club having spent three years with UCC, following a similar path to Mcloughlin who has become a fixture at the heart of the Leesiders’ rearguard this season.

“He has played a number of years in the Munster Senior League, similar to Sean and we are hoping he will follow that pathway,” said Caulfield.

“Sean Mcloughlin has been a great example, it would be fantastic if

Shane was to do similar and we believe he has that talent.”
