NO MARKLES IN SPARKLES

TV chiefs ban family from Strictly or Dancing on Ice

MEGHAN Markle need no longer fret about seeing any controversial relatives on top reality shows like I’m a Celebrity, Strictly or Dancing on Ice.

Half-sister Samantha has been tipped for Channel 5’s Celebrity Big Brother but bosses at ITV and the BBC have decided to ban the Markle clan from their shows.

Both broadcasters want to shy away from “cashing in” on the potential PR exposure – fearing it could be in bad taste.

It comes as early pitch meetings for network shows and independent production firms were understood to have discussed the potential of featuring her relatives.

They included dad Thomas, halfbrother Thomas Jnr, Samantha and cousin Tyler Dooley, who grows legal cannabis in Oregon.

Last night, a TV source with close links to both networks said: “Meghan’s family have pretty much been vetoed from appearing on the biggest reality shows. The Markles have not been shy about talking about their famous family member.

“Obviously for TV networks, the draw is they will say things which create headlines and bring in viewers. However, now any chances of that happening on I’m a Celebrity or Strictly is over.

“The BBC do not want to host someone on Strictly who would be so anti the Royal Family. And ITV’S top brass feel they would not give a voice to these people.”

Insiders say ITV controller Kevin Lygo was a driving force behind the decision. However, it is understood it will not affect speaking to the family for “news purposes” – like Piers Morgan’s Good Morning Britain interview with Meghan’s dad, in which he revealed private conversations with Prince Harry about Brexit and President Trump.

ITV declined to comment. But asked about the Markles, a second ITV source said: “We aren’t currently considering them for any entertainment shows.” A Strictly spokesman said they “don’t comment on speculation”. Samantha, 53, has been outspoken about the Duchess, even calling her “princess pushy” as she promotes her forthcoming tell-all book.
