FISHERMAN STABBED TO DEATH IN CAR ROW

Jack Power died after argument A FISHERMAN was knifed to death by a crazed thug in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Jack Power, from Dunmore East, Co Waterford, staggered from the house in the village where the attack happened and collapsed on the footpath outside.

A 17-year-old boy was arrested at the house in the Shanakiel area of the village and it is understood gardai are not looking for anyone else.

It is believed the victim went to the suspect’s home after discoverin­g his car had been vandalised.

The incident took place at around 3.20am.

Mr Griffin said: “The family have been my neighbours for 30 years.

“I have known Jack all of his life and he was just a great young man. He has never been in trouble – this was an awful case of bad timing.

“They are such a kind family who gave everything to help others in the fishing fraternity.

“For Richard to be at sea and have hours to wait to get back here – it just doesn’t bear thinking about.

“To be told over the phone and not be in a position to walk to your door and see your son, but to have to wait hours to do so, must be so awful.”

Gardai are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
