THE heartbroken parents of Deirdre Jacob have urged anyone with “the missing piece of the jigsaw” over her mystery disappearance to come forward.
And they added notorious rapist Larry Murphy should not be the only suspect in the case.
Speaking ahead of today’s 20th anniversary of her disappearance, Michael and Bernie Jacob called on those with details about their daughter to contact detectives.
At Naas Garda station in Co Kildare, Michael said: “We are appealing to anyone who has even the tiniest shred of information to come forward.
“We are pretty confident there are some people or person that has some information they have been holding on to for a long time now and it would be a good time to clear their mind and tell.
“There are many ways in which they can contact the gardai. They will find the gardai will be very, very sympathetic because they need that little piece of information.
“A huge investigation has taken place over the past 20 years and many reviews have taken place.
“It’s like a big jigsaw, there are a few pieces missing.
“When those pieces come forward the case may very well advance very quickly.”
The trainee teacher vanished from outside her house in Roseberry, Newbridge, on July 28, 1998, when she was 18.
Deirdre had just returned home from London for the summer and was visiting her grandmother a short distance away before she disappeared without a trace shortly after 3pm.
On that day she was carrying a black Caterpillar canvas bag with yellow writing on it. It has never been found. Michael said solving the case would bring the family some closure but added many questions will forever remain Deirdre was training as a teacher
