Child gets into difficulty while swimming in spain

A GIRL of four drowned in a swimming pool while on holiday, it emerged yesterday.

The tragic death of the only child, from Straffan, Co Kildare, happened just after 10.30am close to the Golden Mile area of Marbella.

It’s believed the incident, which police are treating as a terrible accident, happened at a

private villa. It is understood the child had been on holiday with one of her two mums – who are a same-sex married couple – when she got into difficulty in the water.

It is understood her other mother, who runs a successful business in Celbridge, has now flown out to Spain.

A source said: “They’re absolutely devastated. This little girl meant the world to them.

“The two women have been together for years and they were thrilled when she was born four years ago.

“They are absolutely distraught. This little girl was the apple of their eye. It’s a terrible tragedy for the parents involved.”

The child was pulled out of the water and emergency responders tried to revive her using CPR but were unable to save her life.

The tragedy occurred at a premises on San Joaquin Street which is a popular location with holidaymak­ers.

It’s believed the family were coming to the end of their holiday when the tragedy occurred.

The Department of Foreign Affairs is providing consular assistance to the child’s family.
