Gers play a game of patience

- BY ANTHONY HAGGERTY

RANGERS are prepared to play a waiting game in their pursuit of Kyle Lafferty with the striker looking certain to be part of Hearts’ opening-day line-up.

Yesterday it was revealed that the Ibrox club are in no rush to increase their initial offer of £200,000 for the Northern Irishman and are quite happy to sit tight before making their next move.

The Jambos hitman and his representatives met with owner Ann Budge yesterday to discuss the way forward following the rejection of the bid from Rangers.

Although the 30 year-old appears to have his heart set on a return to Ibrox, Lafferty did not hand in a transfer request – with Tynecastle sources describing the meeting as ‘amicable’.

With no increased bid imminent, Rangers and boss Steven Gerrard are understood to be relaxed about the situation but are still keen to bring the striker back along the M8.

However Hearts are digging their heels in and have put a price of £1 million on Lafferty’s head despite the fact that the hitman is in the final year of his contract.

Meanwhile, Aberdeen and Hearts are leading the chase to snap up Greg Stewart.

it’s rumoured that the Reds and the Jambos are keen on offering the Birmingham City striker a route back into Scottish football.

The former Dundee star signed for the Blues for a fee in the region of £500,000 back in the summer of 2016.

However he has struggled to make an impact south of the border.
