Poll on unity ‘question of when not if’
Mary Lou Mcdonald THE Sinn Fein leader has said an Irish unity referendum is now at the centre of political discussion.
The comments come a week after Mary Lou Mcdonald maintained a poll should not be held while uncertainty around Brexit remains.
Ms Mcdonald said: “It is not a question of if a unity referendum will happen but a question of when.”
She made the remarks yesterday during her keynote speech at the 37th annual National Hunger Strike Commemoration in Castlewellan, Co Down.
She added the process of building a new and united Ireland must include unionists and the Irish Government has a responsibility to lead the discussion.
