Moloney’s praise for winners
CLARE joint manager
Donal Moloney rejected suggestions that his side left yesterday’s All-ireland semi-final replay behind them.
Albeit they trailed by nine points in the first half, Clare only lost by one in the end having hit 19 wides as well as missing a late goal chance and a free to bring them level.
“Look if you shoot 17 or 18 wides they say things like that,” Moloney said.
“I think we’ve always looked at this
Championship that the most consistent team will win through.
“The fly-by-night don’t survive in this and fair play to Galway, they have been consistent over two seasons now. I don’t think we left it behind, I think they’re a great team.”
Moloney also credited Galway for their fast start rather than describing as a pedestrian one for Clare.
“It’s not a slow start, it’s nothing to do with a slow start, Galway have a level of capability – that’s three games running, the
Leinster final replay, last week in Croke Park and this week.
“So they are not really slow starts, it is magnificent play by Galway the way they come out of the blocks.”
Reflecting on Aron Shanagher’s late double chance for a goal Moloney said: “Six weeks ago a post helped us out here in Thurles against Tipperary.
“There’s swings and roundabouts in a season, I always kind of knew that maybe that would come back at some point and unfortunately it did today.”
