Nuhiu 20, Forestieri 67 MICHAEL JACOBS’ Wigan teammates call him ‘Crackers’ – and his double strike certainly took the biscuit.

Both were cream cracking efforts in their own right, reflecting his battling performance that earned him man-of-the-match honours, and got Wigan off to winning ways back in the Championship.

Jacobs (above, celebrating his first goal) admitted: “It’s the first time I’ve scored two in a match for Wigan during my three seasons here. When I hit the woodwork and was denied my hat-trick, I nearly walked off!”

Fortunately, the ex-derby and Wolves man stayed on to play a part in Nick Powell’s top-up strike.

Now Jacobs wants to add to his 27 strikes for Wigan, hoping to take his career tally to 50 with his next one. He added: “The gaffer gives is licence to go forward and create chances, which suits me.

“I do love attacking games, and the crowd obviously loved it.”

But Wednesday’s near-5,000 strong army of fans didn’t.

They were dumb-struck by Wigan’s up and at ‘em approach. They also know Wednesday can’t make signings without financial penalties, and owner Dejphon Chansiri meets the fans tonight to explain the club’s position.

Boss Jos Luhukay said: “There was no feeling we could win. We need that confidence and we have to be better at defending.”

Wednesday pulled goals back through Kosovan tough guy Atdhe Nuhiu and Fernando Forestieri.

But Nuhiu was sent off for a second yellow on 90 minutes, and back-fit keeper Keiren Westwood could be on his way out.
