That’s plane rude

- BY AILBHE DALY

RUDENESS towards staff, overdoing it on alcohol and kicking seat backs are among the worst flight habits, a survey found.

The poll of 5,000 Irish holiday-goers revealed that being rude to the crew annoys us most with 86.5% of respondents describing it as “very annoying”.

The survey also found more than 70% of us frown on fellow passengers overdoing it on booze. Reclining a seat all the way back, falling asleep and leaning on you and snoring were also slated.

Conor Faughnan, of AA Travel Insurance who ran the survey, said: “Unfortunately there isn’t much you can do about these kind of behaviours, other than try to focus on the fact that you’ll soon be enjoying yourself on a beach somewhere to try to help you through the rest of the flight.” In terms of our plans for once we reach our destination, embracing the local culture is a greater priority than lazing at the beach.

A total of 42% stated they ensure to fit at least one cultural day trip into each trip abroad, with a further 38% stating the majority of their holiday would include day trips around the area. Surprisingly, the survey found less than 4% of us include a day of relaxing by the pool or at the beach in each holiday.

Mr Faughnan added: “Depending on the actions of your fellow passengers the journey to your destination may be a bit rocky, but once you’ve arrived you can forget the stresses of life back home.

“Before you leave it’s important to have travel insurance to ensure you’re covered for any issues which arise.”
