Olesen bid to be Bjorn winner to please pal

- FROM NEIL MCLEMAN

THORBJORN OLESEN has two more tournaments to prevent his fellow Dane Thomas Bjorn facing a “friendly decision” over a Ryder Cup wildcard.

The in-form world No.40 missed a big chance to force his way into the eight automatic places after weekend rounds of 73 and 68 at the US PGA at Bellerive.

Olesen (above) will now tee up at this week’s Nordea Masters and the final qualifying event, the Made in Denmark, in a bid to guarantee his Europe debut next month.

Bjorn (right) is a friend and mentor to the Londonbased Olesen.

And the 28-year-old said: “Obviously it has been a dream to play a Ryder Cup and it would make it that much more special to play this one, especially with Thomas as the captain.

“But over the last three months or so we haven’t really spoken about it.

“I have felt I have to qualify the whole time.

“We are very, very good friends and I don’t want it to come down to a friendly decision.

“I feel like I have done a lot over the last couple of months.

“But I need to do a bit more over the next few weeks and hopefully I can go and win one of the next two.

“No matter what happens, Thomas is going to have very difficult decisions to make.”

Bjorn will announce his four wildcard picks on September 5. The Cup starts in Paris on September 28.
